CCM/AHCA Release
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University senior goaltender
Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) was named to the 2021-22 CCM Division III All-America West Region second team, as selected by members of the American Hockey Coaches' Association (AHCA), on Thursday, March 24.
Berglove graduated in May 2021 but returned for the 2021-22 hockey season thanks to the NCAA-granted extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The return paid dividends to SJU and Berglove, who registered an 8-4-1 record, 2.05 GAA and a .924 save percentage (328 saves) in conference play en route to All-MIAC first-team honors. Overall, he ended the season with a 13-6-2 record, two shutouts and a .932 save percentage (547 saves).
His 1.88 GAA was fourth-best in program history (1,000 minutes or more) and in NCAA Division III (1,200 minutes or more), while his save percentage was fifth nationally (500 saves or more) this season.
He ended his career third in program history in GAA (2.18) and fourth in save percentage (.924), and totaled a 30-16-9 record and five shutouts. Berglove signed a professional contract with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs, a member of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), March 6.
Berglove is the 24th Johnnie hockey All-American and the first since fellow goaltender Saxton Soley '16 in 2012-13. He is the fifth Johnnie goaltender to receive the distinction (Bob Hanson '79, 1978-79 in the NAIA; Rick Gregory '03, 2003; Adam Hanna '06, 2004-06; and Soley, 2013).
The Johnnies finished third in the MIAC with a 9-4-1 record (17-8-2 overall) this season and made their fourth consecutive appearance in the MIAC Playoffs.
