PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Saint John's baseball ended its 11-game, spring-break trip with a 13-1 loss to Wooster (Ohio) on Sunday, March 13, at Centennial Park in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Wooster (3-1 overall) scored two runs in the second inning and broke the game open with an eight-run third that consisted of four hits, three free passes and two SJU errors.
SJU (5-9 overall) erased the shutout with a sacrifice fly from senior
Ethan Roe (Golden Valley, Minn./Blake) - his 16th RBI of the trip - in the top of the ninth inning. The Johnnies batted 1-for-10 with runners on base and 0-for-8 with two outs, and the leadoff batter reached base only once in the nine innings.
Three Johnnie pitchers combined to strike out 17 Fighting Scots (in eight innings) in the defeat.
Freshman
Will Fazio (Minneapolis, Minn./Blake) allowed 10 runs (six earned) on seven hits in 2.2 innings for the loss.
Sophomore
Griffin Larson (Edina, Minn.) gave up one run, but struck out nine in 3.1 innings of relief. Freshman
Grant Limke (Buffalo, Minn./Holy Family Catholic) made his collegiate debut and surrendered two runs in two innings.
The Johnnies are scheduled to host Northwestern (Minn.) for their home-opening doubleheader at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Becker Park in Collegeville.
