Box Score

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey scored four goals on special teams, three on the power play and one shorthanded, to win its home and MIAC opener 7-3 over Concordia-Moorhead on Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

The Johnnies (3-1-0, 1-0-0 MIAC) finished 3-for-4 on the power play and are now 8-for-20 (40 percent) on the season, including 8-for-16 (50 percent) over the last three games.

The two teams combined for five goals in the first period. Hanson O'Leary gave CC (2-3-0, 0-1-0 MIAC) a 1-0 lead with a rebound goal 9:22 into the contest, but junior forward Lewis Crosby (Edina, Minn.) evened the score on a shorthanded breakaway 2:49 later.

Cole O'Connell gave the lead back to the Cobbers with a power-play goal at the 15:07 mark, but SJU answered with two goals in the period's final 2:11. Senior forward Nick Michel (Waconia, Minn.) tied the game at 2-2 on a rebound following a shot from junior forward Max Borst (Edina, Minn.) at the 17:49 mark and junior forward Joe Papa (St. Charles, Ill.) gave the home team its first lead of the game with 25.5 seconds left.

A pair of power-play goals from sophomore forward Cody Carlson (Buffalo, Minn.) sandwiched another tally from O'Connell to give SJU a 5-3 lead at the end of the second period.

Junior forward Josh Maucieri (Crosby, Minn.) added a power-play goal of his own 4:49 into the third period and Borst ended the game's scoring with a pretty, tic-tac-toe goal from Crosby and Michel 1:22 later.

Freshman goaltender Jon Howe (Chanhassen, Minn.) made 25 saves to earn his first collegiate win in his second start.

SJU outshot CC by a 31-28 margin, including a 25-16 advantage after the first period.
