ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's swimming and diving won 12 of the 13 events en route to a 184-54, dual-meet win at Macalester on Saturday, Oct. 29, in St. Paul.
The Johnnies totaled 31 top-three marks/times on the afternoon, hours after they suffered a loss to Division II St. Cloud State Friday night (Oct. 28) in the home opener.
A pair of Johnnies won two events. SJU claimed the top three times in the 1,000-yard freestyle, led by sophomore
Carter Larson (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) in first place (10:29.52). Larson also touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.60).
Freshman
Brayden Slavik (Green Isle, Minn./Chaska) won both the 400-yard individual medley (4:22.28) and 500-yard freestyle (4:55.34).
Senior
Beau Brinkman (Wayzata, Minn.) won the 50-yard freestyle (22.17) and claimed second (56.26), behind sophomore
Liam Noble (Plymouth, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) in first (55.41), in the 100-yard backstroke.
Sophomore
Colby Kern (Delano, Minn.) and freshman
Clay Megaw (Monticello, Minn.) claimed first in the 100-yard butterfly (55.65) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.09), respectively.
The Johnnies posted the top-four marks in the 1-meter dive. Sophomore
Eli Grabinski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) earned top honors with a 254.60, less than six points ahead of his older brother, senior
Jack Grabinski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) in second (248.85). Eli also won the 3-meter dive with a 266.20 and Jack followed in second (263.75).
The Johnnies' 200-yard medley (1:40.41; Brinkman,
Ren Kitko,
Andrew East,
Ethan Huber) and 400-yard freestyle (3:19.39;
Sam Edwards,
Liam Noble,
Colby Kern,
Tim Belov) also took first place.
The Johnnies return home to host St. Olaf for a 5 p.m. dual meet on Friday, Nov. 4, in the Warner Palaestra Pool.
