Underclassmen Lead SJU in Dual Loss to DII St. Cloud State

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's won two events and totaled 11 top-three finishes in a 189-73 loss to Division II St. Cloud State on Friday, Oct. 28, in the Warner Palaestra Pool. The dual meet consisted of swimming events only.

Sophomore Carter Larson (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.07 and classmate Colby Kern (Delano, Minn.) followed in third (1:47.85). Larson also placed fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:57.75).

Freshman Brayden Slavik (Green Isle, Minn./Chaska), fresh off his MIAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week honor from Oct. 18, touched the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.98) and claimed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:54.91). Sophomore Connor Thayer (Prior Lake, Minn.) and junior Parker Scanlon (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) were fourth (11:02.73) and fifth (11:36.62), respectively in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

Sophomore Langston Phillion (Maple Grove, Minn.) claimed second in the 200-yard butterfly's six-man field with a time of 2:02.51.

A pair of freshmen, Clay Megaw (Monticello, Minn.) and Ren Kitko (Papillion, Neb./Creighton Prep), finished second (1:01.54) and third (1:03.23), respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke. The duo also followed in the same sequence, but third (2:21.68) and fourth (2:25.88), in the 200-yard version.

Freshman Carsten Reuter (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (22.09) and sophomore Liam Noble (Plymouth, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) was fifth (22.17). Noble also claimed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (54.86).

Senior Ethan Huber (Mitchell, S.D.) and junior Alex Heer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) finished fourth (2:07.85) and fifth (2:09.49), respectively, in the 200-yard backstroke. Huber also took fifth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.19).

The Johnnies travel to St. Paul tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 29) for a 1 p.m. dual meet (swimming and diving events) at Macalester.
