COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's swimming and diving won nine events in a 176-118 dual victory over Carleton on Saturday, Jan. 15, in the Warner Palaestra Pool.
The Johnnies totaled 28 top-three marks/times on the afternoon.
Junior
Joe Koller (Savage, Minn./Shakopee) touched the wall first in the 100- (54.54) and 200-yard (2:00.69) backstrokes, and the Johnnies claimed the top three times in the 500-yard freestyle, led by freshman
Carter Larson (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) in 5:04.69. Larson also won the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:51.98) and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.17).
Freshman
Colby Kern (Delano, Minn.) led an SJU trio in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.88) and took second in the 100-yard butterfly (54.50).
A pair of Johnnies went 1-2 in their first diving events of the 2021-22 season. Junior
Connor Reed (Elk River, Minn./Spectrum) returned after studying abroad during fall semester and won the 1-meter dive (219.70). He finished second (204.38) in the 3-meter dive to freshman
Eli Grabinski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice), who posted a score of 213.75. Grabinski placed second on the 1-meter board with a 203.80.
SJU won both relays, the 200-yard medley (1:38.75; Koller,
Dylan Fleischhacker, Kern,
Steven Froehle) and 400-yard freestyle (3:17.02; Froehle, Kern, Larson,
Liam Noble).
The Johnnies make the short trip to Division II St. Cloud State for a 5 p.m. dual meet this Thursday, Jan. 20, in the Halenbeck Hall Pool.
