Box Score

SUPERIOR, Wis. - Saint John's hockey saw its six-game win streak come to an end with a 3-2 overtime loss at Wisconsin-Superior on Friday, Jan. 14, at Wessman Arena in Superior, Wis.

The 3-on-3 overtime switched to a 4-on-3 power play for Superior (9-4-2, 4-2-1 WIAC) 1:05 into the extra session and Reed Stark scored the game-winner on the man advantage 1:26 later.

Sophomore forward Nick Michel (Waconia, Minn.) gave SJU (8-5-1, 4-2-0 MIAC), which was playing its first game since Dec. 11, a 1-0 lead on a breakaway goal with 8:52 left in the first period. The goal was his seventh of the season.

Dylan Johnson tied the game at 1-1 with his 11th goal of the season, a deflection in front, 9:44 into the second period and Artur Terchiyev gave the home team the lead with 6:54 remaining in the game.

Sophomore forward Max Borst (Edina, Minn.) tied the game, however, 1:01 later. A shot from junior forward Jack Johnson (Bemidji, Minn.) was saved by the UWS goaltender, but the loose puck squirted in front of the crease to Borst, who stuffed it home for his fourth goal of the season.

Senior goaltender Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) made a season-high 47 saves in the loss, his first since Nov. 18.

UWS recorded a 50-30 advantage in shots and went 1-for-3 on the power play, to the Johnnies' 0-for-4 showing.

The Johnnies return to conference play with a home-and-home series against St. Scholastica, beginning with a 7 p.m. puck-drop on Thursday, Jan. 20, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. The two teams wrap up the two-game set with a 7 p.m. contest on Friday, Jan. 21, at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth.
