A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's (5-3-1, 1-1-0 MIAC) suffered a 1-0 loss to Gustavus Adolphus last Friday (Sept. 24) at Haws Field.

Scott Heinen scored deciding goal for Gustavus early in the 62nd minute. Freshman goalkeeper Evan Siefken (Lakeville, Minn./North) made a diving save on a shot from GAC's Matt Gibbons, but the rebound when to Siefken's right and found a wide-open Heinen. Siefken finished with seven saves in the loss.

The Johnnies nearly tied the game on a pair of shots that just missed wide of the right post in the final minutes, junior forward Matt T. Anderson (Apple Valley, Minn./Holy Angels) with 3:50 remaining and freshman midfielder Christian Rodriguez (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) with 17 seconds left.

GAC out-shot SJU 19-7 (8-0 on net) and totaled 15-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Knights gained a 2-0 lead on goals in the 15th and 42nd minutes, but the Cobbers cut the deficit in half 31 seconds later – 2:34 before halftime – on a goal from Albara Mutleq. Carleton added an insurance goal in the 70th minute on its lone shot in the second half to end the scoring. Concordia posted statistical advantages in shots (11-8) and corner kicks (8-4), but has now lost seven straight games, having been out-scored by a 23-8 margin, since starting the season with a pair of wins.

A beautiful through ball, from right to left behind the Cobbers' defense, from forward Paul Wadsworth '21 found a hard-charging Picka in the middle of the box for the game-winning goal with 3:38 remaining.

Junior defender Aidan Becken (Prior Lake, Minn.) gave SJU a 1-0 lead with his first collegiate goal - a header off a corner kick from Wadsworth - 17:45 into the game.

Sondre Rygg tied the game at 1-1 for Concordia in the 69th minute. Junior Jake Swanson (Minneapolis, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson) made three saves to earn the victory.
