WHITEWATER, Wis. - Saint John's soccer scored a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation in a 2-2 draw at Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday, Sept. 11.
Junior forward
Brandt Belisle's (St. Paul, Minn./St. Croix Prep) second career goal came at the perfect time for SJU (2-2-1 overall) - 59 seconds remaining - to tie the game at 2-2. Sophomore midfielder
Cole Ober (Hudson, Wis.) sent a long ball into the box, where UWW's goalkeeper and defenders deflected it off each other before Belisle walked in for the dramatic goal.
The Warhawks (3-0-1 overall) built a 2-0 lead with goals in the 62nd and 81st minutes.
Junior midfielder
Matt D. Anderson (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) cut UWW's lead in half with his second goal of the season and fifth of his career with 7:43 left to play. A throw in from senior midfielder
Drew Engel (De Pere, Wis.) went to Belisle, who chipped it to Anderson in the box.
Freshman goalkeeper
Evan Siefken (Lakeville, Minn./North) made six saves in his first collegiate tie.
Whitewater out-shot SJU 14-11 (8-5 on net) and registered a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. SJU was whistled for offsides three times. The two teams combined for 27 fouls and six yellow cards.
The tie is the first in the programs' series (4-2-1 record in favor of SJU).
The Johnnies wrap up their non-conference schedule with a 4 p.m. game Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Minnesota-Morris.
