COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Saint John's University football program added a home-and-home, non-conference series with Wisconsin-Whitewater for week two of the 2022-23 seasons, head football coach
Gary Fasching '81 announced on Thursday, July 29.
The Johnnies will host the Warhawks for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 10, 2022, and travel to Whitewater, Wis., for the return game on Sept. 9, 2023. SJU is still searching for an opponent for the 2022 and 2023 season openers.
"We are excited to announce that we will be adding UW-Whitewater to our schedule starting in 2022," Fasching said. "Coach Bullis and his staff have continued the incredible success of his predecessors at Whitewater. To have two, top-5 programs squaring off in week two in 2022 and 2023 will be exciting for both teams and their fans."
SJU is 1-4 all-time against Whitewater, with the Johnnies' win occurring in the series' lone home and regular-season meeting held in 2002 (a score of 42-18). The other four matchups were on the road in different rounds of the NCAA Division III playoffs: first round (2008, 7-37); second round (2005, 7-34); quarterfinal round (2006, 14-17); and semifinal round (2019, 32-35). The two programs are in Division III's top three for most wins since 1990 (
see below) and combine for 10 national titles: SJU (1963, 1965, 1976, 2003) and UWW (2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014).
