Johnnies Close Spring Season With 2-1 Loss

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's ended its 2021 spring schedule with a 2-1 loss to St. Thomas in the likely final Johnnie-Tommie soccer game on Saturday, May 8, at Haws Field.

Senior midfielder Paul Wadsworth (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) gave SJU (2-3-1 overall) an early 1-0 lead on a free kick from just outside the box, straight on, in the 14th minute. The goal was his second of the season and 13th of his career.

The Tommies (3-0-0 overall), however, were awarded a penalty kick less than three minutes later and again in the 38th minute. Halvor Houg converted both attempts.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Swanson (Minneapolis, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson) made seven saves in net as UST posted a 13-7 advantage in shots (9-4 on goal).

The two teams split a total of eight cards (six yellow, two red) in the second half.
