COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Game three proved to be unlucky again for Saint John's in a 7-2 defeat to St. Thomas on Sunday, April 11, at Becker Park.
The Johnnies (11-7, 1-6 MIAC) gifted the Tommies (13-3, 8-0 MIAC) four runs - without a hit allowed - in the top of the first inning and batted 1-for-16 with runners on base (0-for-7 with runners in scoring position) in the loss.
UST scored two runs - a leadoff homer and back-to-back singles - off freshman
Kody Dalen (Carver, Minn./Chanhassen) in the sixth inning and added an unearned run in the eighth.
Sophomore outfielder
Luke McElroy (St. Paul, Minn./Central) erased the shutout for SJU with a two-run homer, the first of his collegiate career, with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Johnnies loaded the bases in the ninth but did not score.
Dalen gave up the two runs on five hits in five innings of relief, while the unearned run crossed the plate during sophomore
