ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Saint John's hockey scored three goals on special teams in a 5-2 win over Saint Mary's in the home finale on Thursday, March 18, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
Senior defenseman
Cole Souto (Yorba Linda, Calif.) hit the pipe twice and scored two power-play goals, while sophomore forward
Dan Wieber (St. Joseph, Minn.) added a shorthanded tally for the Johnnies (5-2-2, 3-0-1 MIAC).
Wieber started the game's scoring with the shorthanded tally, his 25th career point (8g/17a), 5:13 into the second period and sophomore forward
Jack Kilroy (Denver, Colo.) made it 2-0 less than five minutes later.
Trevor Schroder cut the deficit in half for SMU (5-6-0, 3-2-0 MIAC) at the 16:40 mark of the second.
Seniors accounted for all three SJU goals in the third period. Souto blasted a power-play shot from the point home for his first goal of the night 4:27 into the frame and repeated the routine, during a 5-on-3 advantage, with 3:15 remaining.
Souto rattled a shot off the pipe, his second of the evening, and the ricochet went to senior forward
Tristyn Sabina (Kansas City, Mo.) on the doorstep for his second career goal halfway through the third period.
Tyson Liverance ended the scoring with a power-play goal for the Cardinals with 1:07 to play.

Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) improved to 4-2-2 on the year with the 27-save victory.
SJU, which out-shot SMU 41-29, is now 30-8-2 in the last 40 meetings in the series.
The Johnnies end their 2020-21 season tomorrow night (Friday, March 19) at Hamline. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the TRIA Rink in St. Paul.
