Box Score

MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. - Saint John's and St. Thomas played to a 2-2 tie on Friday, Feb. 26, at St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights.

Senior forward Tanner Dufault (Kasson, Minn.) took advantage of a UST turnover at the blue line and lofted a long shot that beat the Tommie goaltender glove side to give SJU (4-2-1, 2-0-1 MIAC) an early 1-0 lead 5:55 into the game. The unassisted goal was Dufault's third of the season.

Sophomore forward Auggie Moore (Edina, Minn.) made it 2-0 with a power-play goal, the 15th tally of his career, 2:09 into the second period.

UST (2-0-1, 0-0-1 MIAC) opened the third period with a 9-1 shot advantage and eventually tied the game. The Tommies executed a 3-on-2 rush to erase the shutout with a goal from Andrew Kangas 7:08 into the third period and Kimball Johnson tied it at 2-2 with 9:13 remaining.

Both teams had excellent chances to score during the five-minute, 3-on-3 overtime. Senior forward Ryan Kero (Hermantown, Minn.) was denied on the doorstep with under a minute left in the extra session and senior goaltender Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) made a big save following a 3-on-1 with seven seconds remaining. Berglove finished with 30 stops on the night.

SJU, which out-shot UST 35-32, is now 4-1-2 in its last seven trips to St. Thomas Ice Arena.

The Johnnies play host to Gustavus Adolphus for a 7 p.m. game on Monday, March 1, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
