The Johnnie swimming and diving team travels to Northfield for a dual against St. Olaf at 5 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 6.
A LOOK AT THE JOHNNIES: Saint John's finished a two-day dual against Macalester with diving events on Saturday (Oct. 30) in St. Paul and posted a 187-91 victory. Swimming events were held the night before in Collegeville.
SJU compiled 20 top-two finishes and won 12 of the 14 events. Three Johnnies, all freshmen, won multiple events:
-
Colby Kern (Delano, Minn.) in the 50-yard freestyle (22.18) and 100-yard butterfly (54.29);
-
Connor Thayer (Prior Lake, Minn.) in the 500- (5:09.25) and 1,000-yard (10:47.37) freestyles;
-
Carter Larson (Sartell, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) in the 100- (48.82) and 200-yard (1:47.63) freestyles.
Senior
Spencer Atkinson (Cold Spring, Minn./Litchfield) touched the wall first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.74) and junior
Jack Mehus (Fargo, N.D./South) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.98). Sophomore
Alex Heer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (56.10), while freshman

Three Johnnie divers competed uncontested. Junior
Jack Grabinski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) won the 1-meter dive (255.40) and junior
Christian Pfau (Williston, N.D.) took first on the 3-meter board (205.40).
SJU's 400-yard medley relay (
Ethan Huber,
Andrew East, Atkinson,
Travis Teeter) finished second (3:47.90) by 0:00.05.
ANOTHER FRESHMAN EARNS MIAC HONOR: Larson was named the MIAC Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week on Tuesday (Nov. 2), two weeks after Kern received the distinction.
Larson recorded season-best times to win two events, the 100- (48.82) and 200-yard (1:47.63) freestyles, in SJU's 187-91 dual win over Macalester last weekend. Both times are currently third-best in the MIAC this season. He was also the first leg of the Johnnies' 400-yard freestyle relay team that recorded a time of 3:29.37 in an exhibition (would have finished second overall).
