ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Saint John's senior forward Tommy Picka (Victoria, Minn./Chaska) gave the Johnnies a 2-1 victory at Bethel with his second game-winning goal of the season 18 seconds into the second overtime on Thursday, Oct. 14.

Five days after SJU (6-5-1, 3-3-0 MIAC) suffered a 1-0 home loss to No. 17 St. Olaf in double overtime, it was the Johnnies who found the golden goal on a blustery Thursday in Arden Hills. Sophomore midfielder Kaidan Popp (Redmond, Wash./Mount Si) found junior forward Ryan Erickson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan), who centered the ball to Picka. Picka dribbled past a BU defender and ripped a shot from roughly nine yards out.

Isaac Howell took advantage of an SJU turnover to give the Royals (7-5-1, 1-4-1 MIAC) an early 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.

Junior defender Cavin Allen (Excelsior, Minn./Chanhassen) tied it at 1-1 with his second goal of the season off a corner kick from Picka in the 54th minute. Picka's corner found the head of junior midfielder Matt D. Anderson (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep) and Allen provided the finish.

Freshman goalkeeper Evan Siefken (Lakeville, Minn./North) made one save to even his season record at 5-5-1 (3-3-0 MIAC).

SJU out-shot BU, 13-5 (8-2 on goal), and improved to 34-8-4 in the series since 1977, including a 16-5-3 record on the Royals' home pitch.

The Johnnies play host to Hamline for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Oct. 17, at Haws Field.
