SJU Football Leads Division III With 19 Hampshire Honor Society Inductees

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University led NCAA Division III with 19 student-athletes named to the 2020 National Football Foundation & College Football Hall of Fame Hampshire Honor Society on Wednesday, April 15.

A total of 1,432 student-athletes from 364 schools (FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA) qualified for membership in the society's 14th year.

To qualify, student-athletes must be either a starter or a significant substitute in one's last year of eligibility, achieve a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and meet all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.

SJU is one of 29 college football programs that have had at least one honoree in all 14 years of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society. The 19 honorees fell one shy of the Johnnies' previous high of 20 in 2019.

Those honored (listed alphabetically) in 2020 include: 

-Offensive lineman Ben Bartch (Dayton, Ore./Blanchet Catholic, a psychology major;
-Defensive lineman Kyle Borgeson (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes), an accounting major;
-Defensive back Brady Buckentine (Waite Park, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral), an accounting major;
-Linebacker Richard Carriveau (Rice, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice), a sociology major;
-Quarterback Jackson Erdmann (Rosemount, Minn.), a global business leadership major;
-Offensive lineman Dan Greenheck (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall), an economics major;
-Defensive lineman Andrew Haldeman (St. Paul, Minn./Harding), a nutrition major (pre-physical therapy emphasis);
-Defensive lineman Hunter Heitkamp (Adrian, Minn.), an environmental studies major;
-Linebacker James Inman (Bismarck, N.D./Shiloh Christian), an accounting major;
-Offensive lineman Josh Juaire (Belle Plaine, Minn.), a biology major (pre-physical therapy emphasis);
-Tight end Jack Kemper (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall), a global business leadership major;
-Running back/long-snapper Will Kleinschmidt (Avon, Minn./Albany), a social science major;
-Defensive back Sam McNamara (Goodhue, Minn.), a nursing major;
-Offensive lineman Tyler Otto (Maple Lake, Minn./Monticello), a biology major;
-Defensive lineman Sam Presseller (Vadnais Heights, Minn./Totino-Grace), an accounting major;
-Offensive lineman Jake Roney (New Brighton, Minn./Totino-Grace), a history major;
-Linebacker Alex Sais (Los Lunas, N.M./St. Pius X), an accounting major;
-Wide receiver Andrew VanErp (Battle Lake, Minn./Ottertail Central), a biology major (pre-dentistry emphasis);
-Defensive lineman J.W. Windsor (Mesa, Ariz./Chandler), a political science major.

The Johnnies (12-2, 7-1 MIAC) won a share of their MIAC-record 34th conference title and made their sixth consecutive postseason appearance (30th overall, 26th in Division III) in 2019. SJU advanced to the national semifinals and ended the season ranked as high as No. 3 nationally.
