COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's track and field won eight events en route to its third meet victory of the season on Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Donald McNeely Spectrum in Collegeville.
The Johnnies recorded 24 top-three marks/times to finish with 275.5 points, followed by Concordia-Moorhead in second (141.5) and NAIA Jamestown (N.D.) claimed third (84.5).
Junior
Ryan Miller (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) won both the 60- (6.95) and 200-meter (22.58) dashes, while freshman
Maguire Petersen (Hutchinson, Minn.), the reigning MIAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, won the high jump with a mark of 2.01 meters. Freshman
Jared Meier (Jordan, Minn./Shakopee) followed Petersen in third (1.83 meters). Petersen also took second in the long jump (6.25 meters), six inches ahead of freshman
Michael Miller (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) in third place.
A pair of Johnnies went 1-2 with season-best marks in the triple jump. Senior
Collin Trout (Cloquet, Minn.) won the event with a leap of 14.36 meters and sophomore
Michael Wallace (Nassau, Bahamas/St. Anne's) took second (14.03 meters).
The Johnnies claimed the top three times in the 3,000 meters, led by freshman
Lloyd Young (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) in 8:55.14. Senior
Trey Collins (Plentywood, Mont./Royalton) and freshman
Tom Nemanich (Red Wing, Minn.) followed in second (9:00.76) and third (9:19.83), respectively.
Freshman
Jared Stanke (Anoka, Minn./Elk River) won the 60-meter hurdles (8.65) and sophomore
Danny Welshons (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) took third (8.99). In similar fashion, sophomore
Shawn Schindler (Maple Grove, Minn.) won the pole vault (4.40 meters) and freshman
Joe Stauffer (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti) earned third-place honors (4.10 meters).
A pair of freshmen,
Alexei Hensel (Buffalo, Minn.) and
Sam Rengo (Esko, Minn.), went second (2:00.72) and third (2:01.44) in the 800 meters.
Sophomore
Dillon Diekmann (Lake Elmo, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) crossed the finish line second in the 5,000 meters (15:52.74) and four other Johnnies placed third in other events: sophomore
Jack Young (Cold Spring, Minn./Rocori) in the 200-meter dash (22.94), junior
Tyler Johnson (Waverly, Minn./Buffalo) in the 400-meter dash (52.94), freshman
Mitch Grand (Hutchinson, Minn.) in the 1,000 meters (2:35.86) and sophomore
Eli Mollet (Jefferson, S.D./Bishop Heelan Catholic) in the weight throw (16.25 meters).
SJU's 4x200-meter relay (
Mack Maroushek,
Nathan Walsh,
Charles Haik,
Seth Cattoor) won in 1:33.81 and the 4x400-meter relay (Johnson,
Alex Peters, Hensel,
Jacob Reding) finished second (3:35.74).
The Johnnies travel to St. Olaf for the final qualifier before the 2020 MIAC Indoor Championships (Feb. 28-29) at 10:30 a.m. next Saturday, Feb. 22, in Northfield.
