COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Junior linebacker Danny Pietruszewski (South St. Paul, Minn.) was named Saint John's University's Scheels Athlete of the Week on Monday, Sept. 23.

Pietruszewski collected six tackles (four solo), including three for a loss of 24 yards, one quarterback sack and a forced fumble in the fourth-ranked Johnnies' 33-21 win over Gustavus Adolphus last Saturday (Sept. 21) in Collegeville. He was named the MIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week earlier today for his performance.

He came up with a game-changing play for SJU, which was ahead 27-21 at the time, halfway through the fourth quarter after the Gusties took over on their own 20-yard line following an SJU fumble into the end zone. Four plays later, Pietruszewski sacked GAC's Michael Veldman and forced a fumble, which SJU recovered on the GAC 11-yard line. Senior quarterback Jackson Erdmann (Rosemount, Minn.) connected on an 11-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Jack Kemper (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) on the next play from scrimmage. 

Pietruszewski currently leads the MIAC (in all games) with six tackles for loss and is tied for the conference lead with three sacks.

SJU (2-0, 1-0 MIAC) travels to face Carleton (2-1, 0-1 MIAC) for a 1 p.m. kickoff this Saturday, Sept. 28, at Laird Stadium in Northfield.
