NCAA Entrants

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Five Saint John's University track and field student-athletes will compete at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships May 23-25 in Geneva, Ohio. The NCAA announced the selections late Friday (May 17) night.

The top 20 marks/times in each individual event, and the top 16 teams in each relay event, advanced to the national meet.

Sophomore Ryan Miller (Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace) will compete in the 100-meter dash at nationals for the second consecutive season. He recorded the second-fastest time (10.39 seconds) in Division III this spring, which gave him his second straight MIAC title in the event May 11. The time set SJU and MIAC Outdoor Championship records. Miller missed qualifying for the 100-meter dash final by 0.01 seconds to claim 10th at last year's NCAA Championships.

Miller will be joined in the 100-meter dash by senior Drew Schoenbauer (New Prague, Minn.), who ended the season with the 15th-fastest time (10.60) in the event.

Junior Kai Barber (Minneapolis, Minn./Totino-Grace) earned a trip to outdoor nationals with the sixth-best distance in the shot put (17.05 meters). He finished 10th in the event at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March with a mark of 16.29 meters, missing the cut for finals by 0.38 meters (1 foot, 2.75 inches).

SJU's 4x100-meter relay, which consists of Miller as the anchor, Schoenbauer and sophomores Nick Gannon (St. Paul, Minn./Hill-Murray) and Brady Labine (Detroit Lakes, Minn.), will also compete at the national meet. The relay broke its own school record with a time of 40.78 seconds, the second-fastest in Division III, May 16 in La Crosse, Wis. The foursome tied its week-old school record at last year's NCAA Championships with a time of 41.32 seconds to finish 12th out of 16 teams.

SJU opens the three-day national meet with the 4x100-meter relay prelims at 3:15 p.m. ET Thursday, May 23, at the SPIRE Institute. The 100-meter dash prelims are scheduled for 3:45 p.m. ET Friday, May 24. Barber's prelim begins at 11:30 a.m. ET Friday. The 4x100-meter relay final is penciled in for a 12:15 p.m. ET start Saturday, May 25, while the 100-meter dash final is at 1:40 p.m. ET.
