Box Score
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey extended its unbeaten streak to three games with a 2-0 shutout of Gustavus Adolphus on Senior Night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.
The reigning MIAC Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week, junior goaltender
Andrew Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.), made 44 saves to earn his third shutout of the season and fourth of his career. The 44 stops were one shy of his career high.
Junior forward
Brady Heppner (Crookston, Minn.) gave SJU (10-9-5, 8-4-3 MIAC) a 1-0 lead halfway through the first period on a shot from the left faceoff circle that rattled off the far post and in. Junior forward
Kyle Wagner (St. Francis, Minn.) and sophomore
Jake Dittel (St. Paul, Minn.) assisted on the goal, Heppner's team-leading 14th of the season.
Heppner hit the crossbar with 3:20 remaining in the second period, seconds after Lindgren denied GAC's Logan Norman on a point-blank shot in front of the net.
Senior
Evan Okeley (Carmel, Ind.) added some insurance with an empty-net goal, his sixth tally of the season, with 48 seconds left. Wagner stole an errant pass near the blue line, drew the Gusties' defensemen to the left of the vacant net and found Okeley all alone in the slot for his second assist of the night. Wagner currently leads the Johnnies in assists (19) and points (23).
GAC (7-16-1, 4-10-1 MIAC) out-shot SJU 36-17 after the first period to finish with a 44-26 margin. The loss eliminated the Gusties from MIAC playoff contention.
The teams conclude the regular season with a 7:05 p.m. puck-drop on Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Don Roberts Ice Arena in St. Peter.
