COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's swimming and diving lost its home opener to St. Thomas, 179-121, late Friday evening, Nov. 8, at the Warner Palaestra Pool in Collegeville.
The Johnnies won six events and recorded 19 top-three finishes on the night.
Freshman
Jack Grabinski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) led the way with wins in both the 1- (286.85) and 3-meter (264.55) dives.
Junior
Mitchell Dockendorf (St. Stephen, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke (53.45) and claimed second in both the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.41) and 400-yard individual medley (4:35.32).
Sophomore
Steven Froehle (DuPont, Wash./Steilacoom) won the 100-yard freestyle (49.11) and placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.40).
Junior
Eli Greenblat (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.47) and finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.39), while senior
Friedrich Odermann (Wayzata, Minn.) took second in the 200-yard butterfly.
The Johnnies' 200-yard freestyle relay (Froehle,
Beau Brinkman,
Tim Belov,
Ethan Huber) won with a time of 1:28.87, while the 200-yard medley relay (Dockendorf, Greenblat, Odermann, Brinkman) placed second (1:39.04).
The Johnnies return to competition in a month at the Rochester Invitational, hosted by Division II St. Cloud State, Dec. 6-8.
