Johnnie Hockey Ends Weekend With 2-2 Tie

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey and Concordia-Moorhead wrapped up the weekend series with a 2-2 tie on Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (HBNHC) in St. Cloud.

The Cobbers (3-5-1, 1-2-1 MIAC) won the shootout 1-0 to earn the additional point in the conference standings.

CC struck first on a backhander from Aaron Herdt 50 seconds into the game before SJU (2-2-3, 1-1-2 MIAC) gained a 2-1 lead with a pair of goals in the second period.

Sophomore forward Davis Kirkendall (Hamel, Minn.) tied the game on the power play, his third tally of the season, 6:32 into the second period and freshman forward Dan Wieber (St. Joseph, Minn.) followed with his first collegiate goal 3:24 later.

The Cobbers tied the game on a power-play goal with 13 seconds left in the man advantage at the 14:07 mark of the third period.

Junior goaltender Mac Berglove (Elk River, Minn.) made 36 saves in the tie.

SJU's power play struggled to a 1-for-6 showing Sunday afternoon and mustered only four shots on goal in the 10:06 of advantage.

The Johnnies make a brief return to non-conference play with a 7 p.m. game against St. Scholastica on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the HBNHC in St. Cloud.
