ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's won 12 of 13 events en route to a 177-36 dual victory over Macalester on Saturday, Nov. 2, in St. Paul.
The Johnnies swam uncontested in five events.
A pair of freshmen won two events on the afternoon.
Beau Brinkman (Wayzata, Minn.) touched the wall first in the 50- (22.36) and 100-yard (49.49) freestyles, while
Ethan Huber (Mitchell, S.D.) took first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.66) and 400-yard individual medley (4:28.82).
Senior
Friedrich Odermann (Wayzata, Minn.) claimed first place in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.63) and sophomore
Steven Froehle (DuPont, Wash./Steilacoom) followed suit in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.69).
Freshmen
Dylan Fleischhacker (Greenwald, Minn./Melrose Area) and
Ethan Lemke (Moorhead, Minn.) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.40) and 500-yard freestyle (5:08.34), respectively.
Freshman diver
Jack Grabinski (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) won the 1-meter dive (288.60) and took second in the 3-meter (275.00).
SJU's 200-yard freestyle (1:38.53; Atkinson,
Christian Pfau, Lemke,
Connor Reed) and 200-yard medley (1:41.01; Huber, Fleischhacker, Odermann, Brinkman) relays took first against another quartet of Johnnies.
The Johnnies host St. Thomas for their home opener at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the Warner Palaestra Pool in Collegeville.
