MORRIS, Minn. - No. 12 Saint John's basketball shot 57.1 percent (16-for-28) in the second half in an 86-80 non-conference win at Minnesota-Morris on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Senior wing
Jubie Alade (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) made quite the 2019-20 debut for SJU (2-1 overall), as he led all scorers with a career-high 32 points and added five assists. He made seven of his eight shot attempts inside the arc and went 18-for-21 from the free-throw line. Alade missed last weekend's games due to injury.
The 18 made free throws were the most by a Johnnie since former teammate
David Stokman '19 went 18-for-19 at the line (as part of a career-high 37 points) on Feb. 13, 2017, at Macalester.
The Cougars (1-1 overall) took a 43-41 lead into halftime, thanks to 16 points off 10 SJU turnovers, but the Johnnies opened the second half with an 11-0 run.
Morris cut its deficit to 76-74 with 1:29 remaining, but SJU responded with an 8-2 run to gain an 84-76 lead with 13 seconds left. The Johnnies ended the game 9-for-9 from the charity stripe despite a 2-for-8 showing to start the second half.
SJU finished at 54.5 percent (30-for-55) from the floor, including a meager 31.3 percent (5-for-16) from three-point range. The visitors went 14-for-21 from inside the arc in the second half.

Zach Hanson (New Prague, Minn.) followed Alade with a season-high 15 points, while senior post
Lucas Walford (Elko, Minn./New Prague) registered his third consecutive double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Walford's pair of blocked shots gave him an even 100 for his SJU career.
Sophomore guard
Colton Codute (Wayzata, Minn./Orono) was the fourth Johnnie in double figures with 12 points, all of which came in the second half.
James Pendleton led Morris, which finished at 48.4 percent (31-for-64), with 26 points. The Cougars tallied 25 points off 15 turnovers, while the Johnnies posted 20 points off 13 Morris miscues.
The Johnnies play host to Carleton for the MIAC opener at 7 p.m. next Wednesday, Nov. 20, in Sexton Arena.
