MIAC Release
COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's University junior kicker
Colin Kummer (Hastings, Minn.) was named the MIAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week on Monday, Nov. 11.
Kummer (pronounced
coomer) made all 10 of his extra-point attempts, the second-most in program history, in the Johnnies' 70-0 win Nov. 9 at Hamline. SJU entered the contest having made only eight of its last 16 PAT attempts, including 0-for-3 the previous week in the 19-18 overtime loss to Concordia.
Kummer had a 32-yard field-goal attempt blocked on third-and-10 with 3:00 left in the third quarter and another attempt from 38 yards fell short in the fourth quarter. He was a quarterback on the roster as a freshman in 2017 and moved to defensive back last fall before leaving the team at the end of the season.
No. 8 SJU (8-1, 7- MIAC) won a share of its MIAC-record 34th conference championship and earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Playoffs with the win over Hamline and ends the regular-season schedule with a 1 p.m. non-conference game against Rose-Hulman (Ind.) this Saturday, Nov. 16, in Clemens Stadium.
