Johnnie Soccer Dominates Minnesota-Morris in 2-0 Win

Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's soccer completed a 2-0 weekend with a 2-0 non-conference shutout of Minnesota-Morris on Sunday, Oct. 6, in Collegeville.

The Johnnies (8-3, 4-1 MIAC) dominated play by out-shooting the Cougars (2-10, 1-1 UMAC) 31-2 in the victory. Following a scoreless first half, SJU turned up the heat and generated a 20-1 shot advantage (11-0 on net) in the game's final 45 minutes. SJU also held a 16-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior midfielder Paul Wadsworth (Tacoma, Wash./Stadium) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal, his third tally of the season and 10th of his career, on a blistering free kick from 25 yards out in the 68th minute.

Senior forward Nathan Stone (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) added some insurance with his second goal of the weekend in the 82nd minute. Freshman forward Ryan Erickson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) ripped a cross through the box that deflected off a Morris defender directly to Stone on the other side.

Senior goalkeeper Nicholas French (Waterford, Wis.) did not face a shot on goal but earned his second shutout of the season and eighth of his career.

The Johnnies return to conference play with a 3:30 p.m. game against Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Haws Field.
