Lead Slips Away for SJU at St. Thomas

Box Score

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Saint John's soccer suffered its first conference loss of the season, 3-1 at St. Thomas, on a rain-soaked Tuesday, Oct. 1, in St. Paul.

Senior forward Kagan Foster (Alexandria, Minn.) gave SJU (6-3, 3-1 MIAC) a quick 1-0 lead with his fifth goal of the season 7:33 into the game.

The Tommies (4-3-3, 3-1-0 MIAC), however, answered with a pair of goals in the 38th (Jonathan Acevedo) and 41st (Jake Amey) minutes. Jack Barry added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute.

Senior Nicholas French (Waterford, Wis.) made a season-high eight saves in the loss as UST out-shot the Johnnies by a 16-5 margin (11-1 on goal). The eight stops were the most for French since he made 10 saves in a 3-1 home loss to Wartburg (Iowa) on Sept. 8, 2017.

SJU plays two games this weekend, beginning with a 1 p.m. contest Saturday, Oct. 5, at Saint Mary's in Winona. The Johnnies return home to host Minnesota-Morris for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference game on Sunday, Oct. 6, at Haws Field.
