Stokman Breaks SJU Record, Hanson Posts Big Day in Win at Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. – No. 13 Saint John's basketball shot nearly 56 percent (15-for-27) in the second half to pull away for a 74-62 win at Hamline on Saturday, Jan. 26, in St. Paul.

The Johnnies (15-3, 11-2 MIAC) made 10 of their first 11 shots (3-for-4 from three-point range) in the second half, during a 24-8 run, to bust open a 32-31 halftime lead.

Senior guard David Stokman (Maple Lake, Minn.) tied the school record for career three-pointers (232), held by former teammate Patrick Strom '18, with a trey on the Johnnies' first possession and broke it on his next attempt with 15:32 left in the first half. He finished with 13 points, which enabled him to pass Mike Nester '02 for 10th on SJU's all-time scoring list with 1,324 career points. Stokman is now 20 points behind Craig Muyres '64 in ninth.

Sophomore post Zach Hanson (New Prague, Minn.) made 10 of his 16 shot attempts and posted career highs in points (21) and rebounds (12) for his first collegiate double-double. He collected 10 points and eight rebounds in the first half alone, despite missing his first three shots.

Freshman guard Colton Codute (Wayzata, Minn./Orono) went 4-for-7 from behind the arc and scored a career-high 16 points off the bench. Junior wing Jubie Alade (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) poured in 14 points and registered seven assists.

Isaac Brooks and Jake Larson led the Pipers (9-10, 6-8 MIAC) with three three-pointers and 17 points apiece.

The Johnnies return to the Twin Cities to face Bethel (12-7, 9-5 MIAC) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in Arden Hills.
