ST. PAUL, Minn. – No. 20 Saint John's fell to Bethel, 3-2, in a winners' bracket game on Saturday, May 12, at CHS Field in downtown St. Paul.

SJU (32-7, 16-4 MIAC) plays the winner of Gustavus Adolphus/St. Thomas in an elimination game at 7 p.m. tonight. The one-run loss is the Johnnies' fifth this season.

The Johnnies loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the second inning and gained a 1-0 lead when senior second baseman Brennan Swan (Plymouth, Minn./Totino-Grace) poked a sacrifice fly out to right field for the second out.

Austin Ledin tied it at 1-1 for the Royals (31-9, 14-6 MIAC) with his ninth home run of the season to start the bottom of the fourth inning. BU started the bottom of the fifth inning with three straight singles and added a sacrifice fly from Ledin to gain a 3-1 lead.

Sophomore designated hitter Joey Stock started the seventh inning with a single, his second of the game, and sophomore shortstop Michael Gruber (Glenwood, Minn./Minnewaska Area) was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat. Senior second baseman Brennan Swan (Plymouth, Minn./Totino-Grace) moved up the runners with a sac bunt and sophomore left-fielder Aaron Kloeppner (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) cut SJU's deficit to 3-2 with an RBI groundout.

Junior Danny Kuhn (Alexandria, Minn.) suffered the loss, his first of the season (7-1 record), allowing the three runs on eight hits in five innings. 

Senior Ben Etzell (Greenbank, Wash./Coupeville) made his 50th career appearance and recorded three hitless innings of relief.
