Johnnies Settle for 2-2 Tie in Home Opener

Box Score

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's hockey opened its home schedule with a 2-2, non-conference tie against Wisconsin-River Falls on Friday, Nov. 2, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (HBNHC) in St. Cloud.

Following a scoreless first period, senior forward Evan Okeley (Carmel, Ind.) gave SJU (1-1-1 overall) a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal with 7:11 left in the second. Senior forward Matt Colford (Champlin, Minn.) possessed the puck near the end line and found Okeley in the slot for a one-timer to the stick-side, left corner. Sophomore defenseman Jake Dittel (St. Paul, Minn.) earned the second assist.

Sophomore forward Tanner Dufault (Kasson, Minn.) made it 2-0 with his first collegiate goal at the 16:49 mark of the second period. Colford skated toward the left faceoff circle and ripped a shot on net that deflected off Dufault to the back of the net.

Josh Arnold tied the game for UWRF (1-1-1 overall) with a pair of third-period goals on special teams. He cut the Falcons' deficit in half with a power-play tally 35 seconds into the third period and tied it with a shorthanded, breakaway goal three minutes later.

Junior Andrew Lindgren (Minneapolis, Minn.) tied a career high with 38 saves in the tie, including a double-stacked stop of Eddie Matsushima on a penalty shot 8:09 into the second period.

The Falcons out-shot the Johnnies 40-18, including a 35-12 margin after the first period, but were 1-for-8 on the power play.

The Johnnies host Wisconsin-Stout (2-1-0 overall) for a 7 p.m. puck-drop on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the HBNHC.
