Dockendorf Wins Two Events in Dual Loss at St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's swimming and diving won two events and tallied nine top-five finishes in a 216-68 dual loss to St. Thomas on Saturday, Nov. 17, in St. Paul.

Sophomore Mitchell Dockendorf (St. Stephen, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen) won both the 100- (53.34) and 200-yard (1:59.86) backstrokes. He was also the first leg of the Johnnies' second-place, 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:19.36; Caleb Birklid, Steven Froehle, Spencer Atkinson).

The Johnnies claimed second-fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke. Junior Caleb Birklid (Anoka, Minn.) finished second, 0:00.38 from first, with a time of 2:18.62. Sophomore Eli Greenblat (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) followed in third (2:19.57) and senior Jacob Upton (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) took fourth (2:20.27).

Greenblat also claimed third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.94) and Birklid placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.28).

Freshman Steven Froehle (DuPont, Wash./Steilacoom) finished third in the 50-yard freestyle (22.82) and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (50.11).

The Johnnies return to the pool in two weeks for the three-day Rochester Invitational, hosted by Division II St. Cloud State, Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in Rochester.
