PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – No. 25 Saint John's basketball returned to the win column with a 71-55 win at No. 10 Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday, Nov. 17.
The Johnnies (2-1 overall) shot 61.9 percent (13-for-21) from the field, including 50 percent (5-for-10) from behind the arc, in the second half to break open a five-point (27-22) halftime lead and seal the win.
Senior guard
David Stokman (Maple Lake, Minn.) led four Johnnies in double figures with 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. The 17 points vaulted him past Luke Witt '02 and Kevin Buth '03 for 24th in school history with 1,102 in his career.
Junior wing
Jubie Alade (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) followed with 14 points and sophomore wing
Oakley Baker (Geneva, Minn./New Richland-Heartland-Ellendale-Geneva) added 11.
Alade and Stokman combined for 22 points and a 9-for-9 showing at the free-throw line in the second half.
Junior post
Lucas Walford (Elko, Minn./New Prague) collected 10 points and eight boards.
Robert Duax led Platteville (1-1 overall), which shot 27.9 percent (17-for-61) from the floor, with 21 points. The loss was the Pioneers' first at home in the regular season since Feb. 18, 2017.
The Johnnies return home to host Wisconsin-La Crosse for a 7 p.m. home game on Tuesday, Nov. 20, in Sexton Arena.
