ST. PETER, Minn. – Gustavus Adolphus recorded a 205.5-102.5 dual win over Saint John's on Saturday, Jan. 27, in St. Peter.
SJU won five events and posted 13 top-3 finishes on the day. The diving events were held Saturday morning in Collegeville, while the swimmers competed later in the day in St. Peter.
Sophomores
Caleb Birklid (Anoka, Minn.) and
Ryan Pauley (Columbus, Neb.) went 1 (1:49.24)-2 (1:50.30) in the 200-yard freestyle, while sophomore
Luke Heller (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) and freshman
Devin Murphy (Eden Prairie, Minn.) went 1-2 in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyles.
Freshman
Mick Olson (Fullerton, Calif./Troy) won the 200-yard backstroke (2:03.25) and senior
Miao He (Beijing, China/Florida Air Academy) claimed second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.02).
SJU's 400-yard freestyle relay team (
Curtis Noecker, Birklid, Murphy, Heller) took first with a time of 3:17.54.
Freshman
Mitchell Dockendorf (St. Stephen, Minn./Sartell-St. Stephen), who owns five top-10 times in the MIAC this season, did not compete Saturday.
The Johnnies return to action on Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 15-17, at the 2018 MIAC Championships. Prelims are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., followed by the finals at 6:30 p.m., each day at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
