COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – No. 8 Saint John's football team rolled to 504 yards of offense in a 49-14 win over NAIA Presentation (S.D.) on Saturday, Sept. 9, in Collegeville.
The Johnnies (2-0 overall) out-gained the Saints (1-1 overall) by a 383-60 margin on the ground.
Presentation scored all of its 14 points and gained 196 of its 262 yards of offense in the second half.
Senior running back
Dusty Krueger (Lake Elmo, Minn./Hill-Murray) gained 144 yards on just eight carries, thanks to a 61-yard scamper for a score in the first quarter. He also blocked a punt in the second quarter and did not play in the second half.
Senior wide receiver
Evan Clark (Phoenix, Ariz./Apollo) took a handoff on the game's second offensive play and sprinted to a 69-yard touchdown run. He also caught three passes for 56 yards.
Sophomore quarterback
Jackson Erdmann (Rosemount, Minn.) completed six of his 10 pass attempts for 81 yards and a pair of touchdowns, a 12-yard acrobat grab by junior tight end
Jared Streit (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) and a 10-yard strike to senior wide receiver
Dan Harrington (Frisco, Texas/Wakeland) with seven seconds left in the first half.
Junior running back
Adam Essler (New London, Minn./New London-Spicer) made it 21-0 in favor of SJU with a 3-yard plunge 5:28 into the second quarter. Senior running back
Brice Johnston (New Orleans, La./Brother Martin) scored a pair of touchdowns, from 1 and 12 yards out, in the second half.
The Johnnies travel to face St. Olaf for the MIAC opener next Saturday, Sept. 16. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Manitou Field in Northfield.
Notes: SJU is now 28-4 in regular-season, non-conference games since 2002…the blocked punt was the third of Krueger's career…he blocked two punts in 2016 (Oct. 8 at Augsburg and Oct. 15 vs. Carleton)…offensively, the 100-yard rushing performance was the third of Krueger's career…Krueger now has 651 rushing yards on 98 attempts (6.6 avg.) and seven touchdowns in his last six games going back to last season (108.5 ypg.).
