Stokman's Career Night Powers SJU to 92-74 Win at Concordia

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Saint John's ended a two-game skid with a 92-74 win at Concordia-Moorhead on Monday, Jan. 30.

Sophomore guard David Stokman (Maple Lake, Minn.) led all scorers with a career-high 33 points on 12 of 13 shooting, including a 7-for-8 performance from three-point range. He made each of his first 12 shots until a deep three-point attempt rattled out with 2:53 remaining in the game.

The Johnnies (13-5, 9-4 MIAC) made eight of their first 10 shots and Stokman totaled 16 points on six of six shooting (4-for-4 from behind the arc) in the game's first 9:34. SJU shot 66.7 percent (18-for-27) from the field, including 72.7 percent (8-for-11) from three-point, to take a 49-24 lead into halftime. Concordia (10-9, 7-7 MIAC), meanwhile shot 34.8 percent (8-for-23) overall and 1-for-10 from behind the arc in the game's first 20 minutes. 

Stokman made all nine of his shots, including six three-pointers, to match the Cobbers' point total of 24 in the first half alone. He entered the night second in the MIAC (all games) with a .474 shooting percentage from behind the arc (minimum 40 three-pointers).

The Cobbers' top three scorers, Dylan Alderman (14.1 ppg.), Austin Nelson (13.8 ppg.) and Austin Heins (10.4 ppg.), combined for four points in the first half.

SJU led by as much as 28 and finished at 59.6 percent (34-for-57) for the game, 62.5 percent (10-for-16) from downtown. The win was just the Johnnies' second in the last 10 trips to Memorial Auditorium.

Freshman wing Jubie Alade (Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) totaled 18 points off the bench, while junior guard Patrick Strom (Fargo, N.D./Shanley) added 16 points and a career-high eight rebounds. 

Limited by foul trouble, junior post Tyler Weiss (Shakopee, Minn.) registered 13 points in 24 minutes of play. He was called for his third foul of the game, on the first possession of the second half, nine seconds after halftime.
 
Austin Rund (3.3 ppg.) led CC, which never led, with 16 points off the bench. The Cobbers finished at 25.9 percent (7-for-27) from three-point range and left 13 points at the free-throw line (25 of 38) in the loss.

The Johnnies travel the opposite direction for a 7 p.m. game at St. Olaf (8-10, 6-7 MIAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 1, in Northfield.
