Johnnies Battle Gustavus in Swim Portion of Dual Meet

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's won four events and totaled six second-place finishes in a 147-96 dual loss to Gustavus Adolphus on Friday, Jan. 27, at the Warner Palaestra Pool in Collegeville.

The Gusties led SJU, 122-83, after completion of the swimming events on Friday. 

Senior Kenny Bergman (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) won the 50- (21.68) and 100-yard (48.03) freestyles.

Senior Sam Konsor (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (57.65) and sophomore Jacob Upton (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) took second in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.66) and 200-yard individual medley (2:04.98).

Freshman Caleb Birklid (Anoka, Minn.) claimed second, by 0:00.03, in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.75), while freshman Ryan Pauley (Columbus, Neb.) touched the wall second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.22).

SJU's 200-yard freestyle relay (1:26.75; Konsor, Curtis Noecker, Luke Heller, Bergman) finished first, while the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.29; Konsor, Upton, Pauley, Heller) claimed second.

Senior Justin Wollin (Eagan, Minn.) won the 1-meter dive on Saturday with a total of 477.15 points.

The Johnnies return to competition as a complete team at the Minnesota Challenge on Friday (6 p.m.) and Saturday (11 a.m.), Feb. 3-4, at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
