COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's swimming and diving won eight events in a 163-131 dual victory over Carleton on Saturday, Jan. 21, in Collegeville.
Senior
Kenny Bergman (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) won the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 21.79 seconds, and also touched the wall first in the 100-yard version (47.84).
Sam Konsor (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (56.87), while sophomore
Jacob Upton (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.06) and second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.16).
Senior
Justin Wollin (Eagan, Minn.) led the uncontested SJU divers to wins in both the 1-(227.75) and 3-meter (201.55).
Freshman
Caleb Birklid (Anoka, Minn.) claimed second in both the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.84) and 200-yard freestyle (1:48.96), while freshman
Ryan Pauley (Columbus, Neb.) posted second-place times in the 100-(55.11) and 200-yard butterfly (2:08.30).
SJU's 200-yard freestyle (1:27.86; Konsor,
Luke Heller,
Andrew Urness, Bergman) and 200-yard medley (1:39.79; Konsor, Upton, Pauley, Bergman) relays both took first place.
The Johnnies host Gustavus Adolphus for a 6 p.m. dual meet on Friday, Jan. 27, at the Warner Palaestra Pool.
