FAYETTE, Iowa – The Saint John's soccer team ended its Iowa trip with another tie, a 4-4 decision with Luther (Iowa), on Sunday, Sept. 11.
The match was moved from Luther's campus in Decorah to Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, due to flooding in the area. SJU and Wartburg played to a 2-2 tie Saturday in Waverly.
Junior
Daniel Bruckbauer (Fargo, N.D./Shanley) assisted on SJU's first three goals as the Johnnies (1-1-2 overall) built a 4-2 halftime lead. He entered Sunday's match with three assists in his previous 32 career games.
Aidan O'Driscoll gave Luther (3-0-1 overall) an early 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, but senior
Sam Newman (St. Louis, Mo./Priory) answered with the equalizer, his first of the season, 1:08 later.
Back-to-back goals from sophomore
Zack Boerjan (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) and senior
Rocky Harmon (Hudson, Wis.), 14 seconds apart, increased the Johnnies' lead to 3-1. The goal was the first of Boerjan's collegiate career, while the tally for Harmon was his 10th as a Johnnie.
Josh Miller cut the Norse's deficit to 3-2 in the 31st minute, but sophomore
Andrew Weiler (Rosemount, Minn.) answered right back for SJU with his first collegiate goal 1:53 later.
Ahmed Osman cut SJU's lead to 4-3 in the 67th minute and tied the match with 2:45 remaining in regulation.
Freshman goalkeeper
Nicholas French (Waterford, Wis.) made eight saves in the tie.
The Johnnies return home to host St. Thomas (4-0-1 overall) for the MIAC opener at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Haws Field in Collegeville.
