Box Score

STORM LAKE, Iowa – No. 8 Saint John's football built a 33-0 halftime lead en route to a 40-17 non-conference win at Buena Vista on Saturday, Sept. 10, in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Freshman quarterback Jackson Erdmann (Rosemount, Minn.) ended the day 17 of 20 passing for 259 yards and five touchdowns in the win. The five-touchdown performance was the first by a Johnnie quarterback since Alex Kofoed net five on Oct. 13, 2007, at Gustavus Adolphus. Erdmann has a 230.5 pass-efficiency rating, .738 completion percentage (31 of 42), and 469 yards passing with eight touchdowns and no interceptions in his first two collegiate games.

SJU (2-0 overall) totaled 482 yards of offense, including 349 yards on 30 plays (11.6 avg.) in the first half alone. Erdmann found sophomore Jared Streit (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins) for a 15-yard touchdown pass on the game's third play from scrimmage.

Erdmann's fifth passing touchdown of the game, a four-yard fade to junior Matt Miller (Annandale, Minn.) on fourth-and-goal early in the fourth quarter, capped an 18-play, 63-yard scoring drive that chewed up exactly 11 minutes of game clock.

Senior wide receiver Evan Clark (Phoenix, Ariz./Apollo) caught four of Erdmann's passes for 75 yards and two scores (55 and 11 yards in the second quarter). He now has eight catches for 185 yards and five touchdowns through the season's first two games.

Senior linebacker Parker Anderson (Prior Lake, Minn.) led the SJU defense, for the second consecutive week, with 10 tackles (two solo), including one for a loss.

Junior Leonard Gutierrez (Phoenix, Ariz./Brophy College Prep) registered seven tackles (five solo), including one for a loss, and tallied his fourth interception of the young season in the first quarter.

Buena Vista (0-2 overall) scored 10 of its 17 points on the first two offensive possessions of the second half.

The Johnnies return home to host St. Olaf (1-1 overall) for Homecoming next Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville.
