ResultsST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's track and field recorded 16 top-10 marks/times, including 12 in the top five, to open its outdoor season at the Hamline Invitational on Sunday, April 3, in St. Paul.
Senior
Randy Perez (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta) won the javelin with a throw of 51.54 meters in his first collegiate competition.
A number of other SJU throwers, who also happen to be football student-athletes like Perez, also did quite well. Junior
Peyton Thiry (Lester Prairie, Minn./Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity) took third in the hammer throw, first among Division III participants, with a toss of 49.27 meters.
Freshman
Kai Barber (Minneapolis, Minn./Totino-Grace) placed third in the shot put (15.55 meters) and junior
Tony Yost (Eden Prairie, Minn.) finished fourth in the discus (41.80 meters).
On the track, junior
Ryan Kuester (Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake) and freshman
Joel Baeza (Aloha, Ore./Life Christian) went 3 (11.19)-4 (11.31) in the 100-meter dash.
Senior
Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) and junior
Ryan Bugler (Okinawa, Japan/Kubasaki) crossed the 5,000-meter finish line in third (14:51.10) and fourth (14:57.89), respectively.
Sophomore
Colton Peterson (Cloquet, Minn./South Ridge) placed third in the triple jump (13.06 meters), while junior
Raymond Twumasi (Coon Rapids, Minn.) took fourth in the triple jump (12.97 meters) and sixth in the long jump (6.28 meters).
Senior
Matt Devery (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) and junior
Maxwell Olson (Warrensburg, Mo.) tied for fifth in the pole vault at 4.25 meters.
Freshman
Max Martin (Minneapolis, Minn./Wayzata), who is fresh off his MIAC indoor title in the 55-meter hurdles March 4, led conference participants with a sixth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (15.69).
The Johnnies return home to host their annual two-day decathlon and spring invitational this weekend. The outdoor meet is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, in Clemens Stadium.
