ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's swimming and diving fell to St. Thomas, 159-83, in a dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 19, in St. Paul.
The Johnnies won four events and posted 12 top-three finishes on the day.
Senior
Jose Alvarez (North Bay Village, Fla./Belen Jesuit) won the 100-yard backstroke (53.68) and 200-yard individual medley (2:01.16), while senior
Kenny Bergman (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) took first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.00). Bergman also claimed third in the 50-yard freestyle (22.16).
Senior
Andrew Urness (Rosemount, Minn.) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.45), and freshman
Caleb Birklid (Anoka, Minn.) touched the wall third in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.71) and 200-yard individual medley (2:06.04).
Senior
Justin Wollin (Eagan, Minn.) and junior
Josh Tomporowski (St. Cloud, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) took second and third, respectively, in both the 1- and 3-meter dives.
The Johnnies' 200-yard freestyle (Urness,
Alex Brock,
Sam Konsor, Bergman) finished second with a time of 1:27.49.
SJU returns to action at Division I Minnesota's Jean Freeman Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2-3, at the Gophers' Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
