SJU and No. 13/14 UW-Eau Claire Skate to 3-3 Tie

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Saint John's and No. 13/14 Wisconsin-Eau Claire played to a 3-3 tie on Friday, Nov. 11, in Eau Claire, Wis.

SJU (3-1-1, 1-1-0 MIAC) built a 2-0 lead before the Blugolds (2-1-2, 0-0-0 WIAC) scored three straight goals in the second period.

Sophomore defenseman Joey Lindberg (Woodbury, Minn.) scored what proved to the game-tying goal, the first tally of his collegiate career, with 6:27 remaining. Sophomore forwards Matt Colford (Champlin, Minn.) and Evan Okeley (Carmel, Ind.) were credited with the assists.

Colford put SJU on the scoreboard with 12 seconds remaining in the first period, with assists going to junior forward Huba Sekesi (Germering, Germany) and sophomore defenseman Sean Lang (Apple Valley, Minn.).

Freshman forward Brady Heppner (Crookston, Minn.) gave the visitors a 2-0 lead with his first collegiate goal 1:59 into the second period, with assists going to sophomore forward Robb Stautz (Roseville, Minn.) and senior forward Dan McNamara (Grand Rapids, Mich.).

Patrick Moore cut the Johnnies' lead in half seven minutes later and Mac Jansen tied the game with a 4-on-4 goal at the 11:39 mark. Todd Koritzinsky gave UWEC a 3-2 lead with 1:29 left in the second period.

Senior goaltender Tyler Nelson (Champlin, Minn.) made 38 saves in the tie. The Johnnies entered the game at 35 percent (7-for-20) on the power play so far this season, but went 0-for-4 Friday night.

Thirteen of SJU's 18 skaters in the game were either freshmen or sophomores.

The Johnnies and Blugolds have now tied each of their last three meetings. (1-1 in 2015 and 3-3 in 2014).

SJU ends its Wisconsin trip with a 7 p.m. game on Saturday, Nov. 12, against the defending NCAA Division III champions, top-ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point (4-0-1, 0-0-0 WIAC).
