Senior
Paul Wageman (Roseville, Minn./DeLaSalle) gave SJU (3-1-1 overall) a quick 1-0 lead with his second goal of the season 18:12 into the game. Junior
Zach Wright (Blaine, Minn.) possessed the ball to the near post and sent a cross to a wide-open Wageman in the middle of the box.
Simpson (3-1-1 overall) tied the match only 16 seconds into the second half. A long pass from Nick Joslyn knifed through the SJU defense, right to the foot of Marcus Varnum.
Sophomore
Daniel Bruckbauer (Fargo, N.D./Shanley) broke the tie with what proved to be the game-winning goal on a breakaway with 14:58 remaining. Bruckbauer won the ball on the Storm's backline and the ball caromed behind the defense for a one-on-one with the opposing keeper. The goal was the third of his career and first game-winner.
Senior
Kevin Lebahn (New Hope, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's) made five saves to improve to 3-1-1 on the year. The Storm held a 17-8 advantage in shots (6-4 on goal), including a 12-3 margin in the second half.
The Johnnies open MIAC play with a 4 p.m. match at St. Thomas on Wednesday, Sept. 16, in St. Paul.
