SJU Begins Indoor Season With Good Showing at Bethel

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Saint John's track and field team opened its indoor season with 13 top-eight finishes at the Bethel Classic on Saturday, Feb. 7, in Arden Hills.

Senior Yasin Williams (East Orange, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) tallied two of the 13 by finishing second in the 200-meter dash (23.47) and seventh in the 60-meter dash (7.30).

Senior Jake Lammi (Marine on St. Croix, Minn./Stillwater Area) took second in the 400 meters (51.70) and sophomore Zach Grieves (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) followed in sixth (52.60). 

Junior Thomas Feichtinger (Omaha, Neb./Mount Michael Benedictine) and senior Kyle Rossow (St. Louis Park, Minn./Hopkins) took fourth in the mile run (4:17.32) and 1,000 meters (2:40.53), respectively.

Three Johnnies finished in the top eight in the 60-meter hurdles. Sophomore Joe Koll (Winona, Minn./Cotter) led the trio in third (8.83), while juniors Anthony Smith (Newark, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) and Jacob Peterson (Monticello, Minn.) crossed the line in fifth (8.98) and seventh (9.35).

Koll also claimed second in the long jump (6.32 meters) and sophomore Nick Burke (Fridley, Minn./Totino-Grace) posted a seventh-place mark of 6.02 meters.

Junior Aaron Piecukonis (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta) finished fifth in the 200 meters (23.89) and junior Matt Devery (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) took seventh in the pole vault, third among Division III participants, with a height of 4.20 meters.

The Johnnies return home to host Concordia-Moorhead, Macalester and its alumni at 11:30 a.m. next Saturday, Feb. 14, in the Donald McNeely Spectrum.
