ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Saint John's University junior goaltender Saxton Soley (Elk Mound, Wis.) made a career-high 45 saves as the 15th-ranked Johnnies played No. 2 St. Norbert (Wis.) to a 0-0 tie on Thursday, Jan. 8, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

The Green Knights (10-1-2, 7-0-1 NCHA), the defending NCAA Division III champions and winners of three of the last four national titles, entered the game with the country's top scoring offense 5.67 gpg.), out-scoring the opposition 68-16 through the season's first 12 games.

The shutout is Soley's second of the season and sixth of his career.

Sophomores Kevin Becker (Roseville, Minn.) and Dan McNamara (Grand Rapids, Mich.) led SJU (6-3-4, 4-1-1 MIAC) with five and four shots on goal, respectively.

SNC out-shot the Johnnies 45-25, including a 31-13 margin through the first two periods before play balanced (even shots at 10 apiece) in the third. The visitors entered the game sixth in the country on the power play at 30.2 percent (19-for-63) but went 0-for-2 on the night.

SJU entered the 2014-15 season with no scoreless ties recorded in its 78-season history, and now has two in the past 69 days since posting a 0-0 tie against St. Thomas in the opener on Oct. 31. 

The Johnnies play host to Lawrence (Wis.) for a 2 p.m. game on Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Fans are encouraged to bring their skates, as SJU has reserved 30 minutes of ice time for a skate with the Johnnies following the game.
