COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's bounced back with a convincing 92-75 win over Augsburg on Monday, Jan. 19, in Sexton Arena.

The Johnnies (8-6, 6-3 MIAC) made eight of their first nine shots from the field and finished at 62.1 percent (36-for-58) for the game, doubling their shooting percentage from Saturday's 69-59 loss at Gustavus Adolphus (36.1 percent).

Augsburg (8-6, 5-4 MIAC) pulled to within one, 25-24, with 10:21 left in the first half before SJU went on a 13-2 run to build a lead that stayed above double digits the remainder of the game. The Johnnies led by as much as 27 and the 92 points scored are the most against Augsburg since Dec. 5, 1992 (a 95-71 win for SJU in Collegeville).

Junior guard Mitchell Kuck (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) led SJU with 27 points and classmate Alex Schmitt (Waconia, Minn.) followed with 19 points. The two combined to shoot 84.2 percent (16-for-19) from the field, including 5-for-7 from three-point range, and chipped in four assists apiece. Eleven Johnnies scored a point in the victory.

Collin Olmscheid (7-for-10) and Joey Sonnenfeld (5-for-7) led the Auggies with 18 and 16 points off the bench, respectively. The rest of the team shot 36.6 percent (15-for-41) from the floor. The Auggies' bench accounted for 50 of the team's 75 points as the starters combined to go 10-for-26 on the night. 

SJU plays host to Macalester for a 7 p.m. game, its final weeknight contest at home during the regular season, on Wednesday, Jan. 21, in Sexton Arena.
