ST. PAUL, Minn. – Saint John's swimming and diving returned to the pool and won six events in a 122-109 dual loss at St. Thomas on Saturday, Jan. 10, in St. Paul.
Sophomore
Jose Alvarez (North Bay Village, Fla./Belen Jesuit) won the 400-yard individual medley with a pool-record time of 4:21.59 and claimed second in the 100-yard backstroke (55.10).
Sophomore
Kenny Bergman (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) and junior
Paul Knaak (Forest Lake, Minn./Stillwater Area) went 1 (48.12)-2 (48.21) in the 100-yard freestyle, while senior
Joe Duxbury (Long Lake, Minn./Orono) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.18). Duxbury also took third in the 50-yard freestyle (22.15).
Freshman
Tyler Urbanski (Lexington, Minn./Centennial) won the 3-meter dive (134.20) and sophomore
Justin Wollin (Eagan, Minn.) took second in the 1-meter dive (204.10). Freshman
Josh Tomporowski (St. Cloud, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) scored a second- (124.45) and third-place (197.15) finish in the 3- and 1-meter dives, respectively.
SJU won both relays, the 200-yard freestyle (1:27.29; Knaak, Bergman,
Sam Konsor,
Andrew Urness) and 200-yard medley (1:37.91; Alvarez, Duxbury, Konsor, Knaak).
The Johnnies return to St. Thomas for the Meet of Saints next Saturday, Jan. 17. Diving competition is scheduled for 9 a.m., followed by swim events at 1 p.m.
