Johnnies Take Second at Fall Finale

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's cross country finished second out of six colleges at the SJU Fall Finale on Friday, Nov. 7, in Collegeville.

Aside from three unattached runners, Division I Minnesota recorded the first five finishers to win the 8k meet with a total of 15 points, followed by SJU (42), Gustavus Adolphus (105) and Hamline (108). 

SJU's top eight runners did not compete.

Sophomore Beau Gerding (St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) led the Johnnies in ninth, first among Division III student-athletes, with a time of 26:53. Sophomore Nick Traxler (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka) and senior Kyle Rossow (St. Louis Park, Minn./Hopkins) followed in 11th (27:00) and 12th (27:08), respectively.

The Johnnies' varsity returns to competition at the NCAA Central Regional next Saturday, Nov. 15. The race is scheduled for 11 a.m. on the Central College campus in Pella, Iowa. The Johnnies have 31 top-eight finishes at their last 32 NCAA Central Regionals (going back to 1982), including five titles and 23 top-five finishes. SJU finished eighth last fall.
