South Dakota State Tops SJU, 130-85

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Saint John's swimming and diving fell by a 130-85 score to Division I South Dakota State on Nov. 21-22 at the Warner Palaestra Pool in Collegeville.

SJU posted 13 top-13 finishes in the two-day dual.

Sophomore Jose Alvarez (North Bay Village, Fla./Belen Jesuit) and junior Alex Ingulsrud (Fargo, N.D./Davies) touched the wall in second (54.71) and third (57.92), respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke. Junior Connor Reilly (Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) and senior David Kahat (Lino Lakes, Minn./Mounds View) went 2-3 in the 200-yard freestyle, while sophomore Kenny Bergman (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South) and junior Paul Knaak (Forest Lake, Minn./Stillwater Area) went 2-3 in the 100-yard freestyle.

Senior Joe Duxbury (Long Lake, Minn./Orono) claimed third in the 50-yard freestyle (22.39).

Sophomore Justin Wollin (Eagan, Minn.) took second in both the 1- and 3-meter dives, while freshmen Josh Tomporowski (St. Cloud, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice) Tyler Urbanski (Lexington, Minn./Centennial) finished third in the 1- and 3-meter dive, respectively.

The Johnnies' 400-yard freestyle relay (Andrew Urness, Reilly, Kahat, Paul Knaak) took first with a time of 3:20.81.

SJU returns to action at the University of Minnesota's Jean Freeman Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5-6, at the on-campus Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
